As a college preparatory school, FSHA seeks to develop the talents and interests of its students so that they will succeed at their chosen college or university.
During freshman and sophomore years, the girls learn about the varying curriculum requirements of colleges and are counseled in their choice of studies by their assigned Academic Advisors. Each student is then assigned to a college counselor her junior and senior year who guides her through the entire college application process. The College Counseling Staff is dedicated to helping each student realize her individual educational goals and works closely with her and her family throughout the process.
Please explore the College Counseling section for more details about the process of applying to college, answers to frequently asked questions and a sampling of the colleges and universities FSHA students have been admitted to. Meet the College Counseling Staff.
I hope that the juniors spent some time during their Spring Break visiting various colleges and universities. I know how hard it is to keep track of all the colleges that you visit, so please remember to keep notes of all the pluses and minuses of each campus that you visit. Just a reminder that all juniors should be taking their SATs and ACTs in May and June. If you have any questions, please give our office a call. There are still a few juniors who have not filled out the junior questionnaire. If you and your daughter have not met with your daughter's counselor, please call our office as soon as possible to make an appointment. Please remember that students still have time to make plans for the summer. We have information on numerous colleges and universities that offer some great summer experiences.
Congratulations to our seniors and parents! The college selection process is finally complete as all of the seniors committed to their college of choice by May 1. The class of 2008 has done an excellent job of selecting colleges and universities that matched their personalities and interests. As parents, you may be tremendously proud of your daughters' successes. I know that this has been a long and emotional process, but they will always remember the support you gave them during their senior year.
I have asked the seniors to give me a list of the scholarships that they have received from all of the schools to which they were admitted and also from all outside sources. I need the specific names of the scholarships and honors programs so that they can be put into the Candle Rose program. Please check with you daughters to make sure they have turned in the names of the scholarship and honors programs offers they have received.
Both the Cal-States and the UC system require incoming freshmen to take placement tests in math and English if they did not receive certain minimum SAT or ACT scores. Those without qualifying scores must take the tests or they will be unable to register for fall classes. Make sure that your daughter has signed up for the tests if her scores require it. All of the girls should have received information about the UC Subject A exam and the Cal-States placement tests in the mail. You can always check with the campus your daughter will be attending for further information.
Remember that final a transcript will be sent only to the one school your daughter committed to on May 1.
