The Visual and Performing Arts Department feels that it best serves the student through stimulating creativity and imagination. By participating in the various courses offered, such as art, dance, theater and music, the student is allowed to express abilities in other than traditional ways. The Visual and Performing Arts are an integral part of the educational process and as such, there is particular emphasis in the department on the experimental, interpretive and creative as well as traditional methods of teaching.
Preparation in the arts can provide a cultural awareness of such diverse disciplines as history, foreign language, English literature and social sciences. The student is made aware of the cultural traditions of other countries through the presence of international students. Even if a student does not choose to pursue the study of the arts as a career, it is an area in which all people can enrich their lives whether through self-expression and self-awareness or through response to the expression of others.
