The study of a foreign language fosters an understanding of, respect for and interest in other cultures and people past and present. By promoting awareness of and insight into other cultures and the values they hold, the study of foreign language develops intellectual flexibility, sensitivity to other points of view, enhances the ability to communicate effectively and supports acquisition of skills necessary for the multi-cultural, multi-linguistic and competitive world of the twenty-first century.
