The primary concern of the Social Studies Department is to develop responsible citizens committed to working toward a global society based on the dignity of each individual. Essential to this process is our commitment to inculcate Christian social attitudes, to impart knowledge and to teach valuable life skills.
Department goals include: to promote an appreciation and understanding of the development of human civilization; to foster commitment to the value of justice and its implementation in the modern world; to instill a sense of the world as a global community and to understand the political, social and economic interdependency this entails; to build an appreciation of and a commitment to active participation in democracy; to inculcate research and analysis skills pertinent to the social sciences; and to develop reasoning ability necessary to judge both historical and current events with objectivity, tolerance and a spirit of critical inquiry.
