1. Are there designated study times for the students?
As a college preparatory school, FSHA places a high priority on academic performance. There are two proctored study blocks each day that all resident students are required to attend. The students learn to structure their time and set good study habits.
Teachers and Resident Supervisors are available to assist with homework during the week.
FSHA's suburban, hilltop location isolates the campus and its students from excessive traffic and passers-by, creating a safe and secure environment. The Resident Staff and FSHA's security guards provide 24-hour supervision for the resident students.
As they live in the same building, the resident students and the Sisters interact throughout the week - at mealtimes, passing in the halls and at Sunday mass. Students are free to visit the Chapel at their leisure and are invited to attend Sunday mass and brunch with the Sisters.
On-campus banking is available to the resident students through the Business Office. Parents can establish FSHA accounts for their daughter that allow her to write checks, withdraw cash, mail packages and develop film. Parents receive a monthly statement of account activities.
The Resident Staff encourages an open line of communication with parents. Parents can phone, fax or email whenever they need to talk with the Director or Supervisors. The Resident Staff sends a six-week hall report, along with the academic progress report, to parents that updates them on their daughter's FSHA goings-on.
The Resident Staff has secured a doctor who is on call 24-hours a day. If urgent medical attention is needed, Verdugo Hills Hospital is a quick 15-minute drive from campus.
Resident students are encouraged to participate in all of FSHA's co-curricular programs. This year, resident students have participated on sports teams and in theatre productions and music and dance performances and are members of various campus clubs. Engaging in these activities further enriches their Flintridge experiences.
FSHA's full-kitchen staff provides three meals a day for the resident students as well as after school snacks. Meal options vary, but the Kitchen Supervisor strives to offer healthy, well-balanced meals.
Families must submit official financial statements and students must have a valid I-20. Please visit the Admissions section for more information.
There are many things that our seven-day resident students can do on the weekends. FSHA is close to Pasadena, CA, which offers some of the best retail stores, restaurants, and movie theatres around. FSHA is also close to Universal Studios, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, and Magic Mountain.
The Activity Director is in charge of resident activities. It is her job to plan one or two weekends a month for the residents to enjoy. These activities allow the resident students to see parts of California that they may not have ever been before. The activities include, but are not limited to, snow-skiing, beach trips, shopping trips to the Cabazon outlets in Palm Springs, Disneyland, Santa Monica, and many more.
