In the 1930s and '40s, FSHA only accepted boarding students, mostly from Mexico, Asia and outlying areas of Southern California. The tradition of the boarding program is upheld to this day, with up to sixty students enrolling each year. Today's international students come from Mexico, Saudi Arabia and throughout Asia. The U.S. resident students still come from outlying areas of Southern California as well as Northern California and neighboring states. The resident program contributes to the unique character of the school, by uniting different cultures and providing a truly global learning environment.

The Resident Program offers a safe, structured, nurturing and caring home life for U.S. and International boarding students. Contained within a college preparatory academic environment, the program places a high priority on academics. The Resident Staff supervises the daily life and activities of the students, ensuring that school hours, meal times, study hours and curfews are followed. Resident students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities, such as sports teams and productions, and have an active role in school leadership through the Resident Council. Friendships established through the Resident Program last throughout a student's lifetime.
