With August behind us, life in the boarding hall has developed a nice rhythm and spirit. The girls have been signing up for numerous weekend activities; and more cross-grade friendships have emerged from spending time together. We have done a full day walking tour of Los Angeles, enjoyed Universal Studios, played at the ocean, explored Melrose Avenue, gone go-karting, and enjoyed on campus bonding such as pizza parties, cooking, games and sushi nights. We have launched our first service project, making blankets for shelters. Having this healthy work-play balance keeps the girls more emotionally healthy.
One of the highlights of September included the celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival, an elegant dinner overlooking the valley below at which we enjoyed a special menu, mooncakes, and poems and music about the moon.
Our annual boarding retreat was held on Saturday, September 21. This annual all-boarding event seeks to build sisterhood and explore topics around our boarding theme, “Dream the Impossible Dream.†Presentations, team building events, hall competitions, a prayer service, meaningful activities, and a special meal rounded out the day.
The September Birthday party, a night in Hawaii, celebrated the summer and September birthdays on the lawn. Games and activities made for a special tropical evening!
We have formed a new leadership group in the boarding hall, the Boarding Hall Service Council. This student-led service group will help to guide the content and activities of the boarding service learning program.
