Therese Bagsit Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy

What’s your role in the admissions office?

I am the director of admissions & enrollment management. I oversee all admissions programs, processes, and procedures.

What made you want to work at FSHA?

I graduated from an all-girls Catholic high school, and I am an advocate for students and life-long learners to study, work, and live outside of their home countries. Since FSHA is the oldest, all-girls Catholic boarding school in Southern California, I get to live the mission every day.

What most excites you about your work here on the Hill?

As the new director of admissions and enrollment management, I am excited to partner with current students and families, and our passionate faculty and school leaders in shaping the school’s community. I especially enjoy hearing students and teachers share their stories about what everyday life is like for a Tolog! These stories and moments are what I get to share with prospective students and families as I visit 8th Grade classrooms and high school fairs in our local community and around the globe.

What is the most important thing prospective students should know about FSHA?

As a Dominican school, FSHA recognizes that each one of us in the community – as students, faculty, staff, parents and guardians - brings our own unique gifts. St. Catherine of Siena, a sister of the Dominican Order said, “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” We invite girls to come as they are!

What has been your proudest professional accomplishment?

The late Anthony Bourdain re-Tweeted me in 2012.

What's your favorite place in the world?

I have two favorites: the city of London, England, and on the couch next to my rescue dog.

What book, movie, work of art, piece of music, etc. can you not imagine life without?

"The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger and the 1952 film "Singin’ In the Rain." The exuberant manner in which Gene Kelly dances in a rainstorm during his iconic solo – that’s how true love should make one feel!

What’s your role in the admissions office?

As the assistant director of admissions, I assist prospective candidates, current families and colleagues with anything regarding the admissions process.

What made you want to work at FSHA?

FSHA is truly a welcoming community.

What most excites you about your work here on the Hill?

In my opinion, the most exciting part of my job is working the Admissions events and meeting new families.

What are the two most important things prospective students should know about FSHA?

The most important thing prospective students should know about FSHA is that you never really leave the Hill even after graduating. Lifelong bonds and a true sense of sisterhood really epitomize what the heart of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy represents.

What is FSHA’s best kept secret?

There's so much wildlife here! From the graceful deer to the sun-bathing lizards, there has not been a day since I started working here that I have not seen some sort of creature on campus.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite spot on campus overlooks the Rose Bowl and Pasadena. What a fantastic view!

What do you love about the all-girls school environment at FSHA?

What I love about the all-girls learning environment is that the focus can truly be on academics, empowerment, carefree fun, individuality and collaborative growth. FSHA challenges and nurtures the holistic development of young women.

What are you surprisingly good at?

I am a trained makeup artist and have helped my sisters and friends with their makeup predicaments for years.

Where can we find you when you’re not working?

When I am not working, you can always find me with my big family, my wonderful husband Chris and our goofy dog. Going to concerts, thrift store shopping or a family dinner at my parent’s house are some of my favorite activities.

Who has made the biggest impact on your life?

My parents have made the biggest impact on my life by far. Their virtuousness, compassion, purity and unwavering love guide my siblings and me through our lives. They are a constant source of stability and selflessness for anyone who knows them. I truly can’t say enough about how important family is.

What’s your role in the admissions office?

I am often the first point of contact for students and families. I also make sure that applications are completed, do research and projects, and help to plan events.

What made you want to work at FSHA?

There’s a longer story for another day that involves my dog, but the short answer is that I wanted to work here because of the interesting work I do and the wonderful people that I work with.

What most excites you about your work here on the Hill?

Every year we get to shepherd a new group of girls through this wildly interesting process. It’s exciting to see so many different girls who all want to attend FSHA for their own reasons.

What are the two most important things prospective students should know about FSHA?

You will probably fall in love with this location, which is great because I did too! People here are truly kind – the students, teachers, administrators, staff, everyone.

What is FSHA’s best kept secret?

To me, the boarding program! Growing up in the area, I never heard that FSHA had a boarding program for US and international students. It’s such a unique and beneficial experience for everyone here.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

The Arts Center. It’s just stunning.

What do you love about the all-girls school environment at FSHA?

It allows these girls to be confident in their abilities and become self-assured. They are encouraged to find their place in the world and, once found, fully inhabit that place.

What are you surprisingly good at?

Genealogical research. I love devoting myself to tracing my ancestry, adding to my family tree, and compiling stories before they are lost in time.

Where can we find you when you’re not working?

At home with my dog Maggie, catching up on TV shows. Other good bets of where to find me: discount shopping, taking walks in the park, reading, or out to dinner with my friends.

Who has made the biggest impact on your life?

My family. Without them I am nothing.
