Anoosh Hovanessian

Boarding Supervisor
at FSHA since 2002

What’s your role in the boarding hall?

Residential Life Supervisor

What made you want to work at FSHA?

During my first visit to FSHA I felt peace and holiness as I entered the Administration Building. Meeting the Dominican sisters and the FSHA community made me very excited to be part of this school.

What most excites you about your work here on the Hill?

Every year is a new beginning in residential life, with new international students entering
in the boarding halls.

What are the two most important things prospective boarding students should know about life in the boarding hall?

They need to know that they are coming to spend the most beautiful years of their high school life in the land of opportunity. They are going to experience the greatest education with strong support and a loving and caring community.

What is FSHA's best kept secret?

The school has good relationships with the alumnae and their families. Gala, as well as all kinds of other celebrations on the Hill, bring a good spirit to the community.

What's your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite spots on campus are the Green Room and the chapel.

What do you love about the all-girls school environment at FSHA?

I love the freedom they experience and the beauty of their friendships. Their successes in the classroom, sports and the arts here give them so much power and make them stand out when they leave FSHA.

What’s been your favorite boarding hall experience?

Welcoming all the freshmen and other new students on the first day with their families is my favorite day of the school year. It is the best day of residential life at FSHA, a fresh start, and it continues when we  join all the new day families in celebration at the SAC. Bringing all the new day families and international families together at one table to introduce them to  one another and to all the faculty and staff—it is the most unforgettable evening for all.

What are you surprisingly good at?

I can do anything from sewing on a button to alterations to making a dress. I also enjoy party planning, coordinating, and decorating.

Where can we find you when you’re not in the boarding hall?

At home spending time with my husband or visiting my two beautiful grandchildren—Violet and Jett. I love to go out and enjoy life with friends and family.

Who has made the biggest impact on your life?

My father made the biggest impact in my life. He would tell me never say, “I’m tired”  until you finish the job. My papa was a very hard worker.
