Samantha Herrick

Boarding Assistant
Boarding Hall Council Moderator
at FSHA since 2016

What’s your role in the boarding hall?

I am a resident assistant at FSHA. I work in residential life with our boarding students by planning outings and activities for the weekend, intentional programs and prayer services and just being here for anything that our students need. I also live in one of the faculty apartments.

What made you want to work at FSHA?

There are several reasons to why I wanted to work at FSHA. While I was in college I spent three years serving on their residence life team in several different positions. I have also spent a number of summers working with youth at summer camp. Working at FSHA allows me to return to a residential life atmosphere and continue to guide and mentor young women.

What most excites you about your work here on the Hill?

I enjoy getting to know each of the lovely ladies living here whether it be through casual conversations, helping them with homework, going on small outings, especially camping, impromptu trips to the pool or town and having game nights.

What are the two most important things prospective boarding students should know about life in the boarding hall?

We, as a staff, truly want to make this place as home-like as possible for each of our students. We always have activities going on, whether it be a movie night, baking, small outings to local areas, planning a trip to an amusement park, game nights or spending time outside.

What is FSHA's best kept secret?

I think FSHA’s best kept secret is how beautiful the views are from multiple places on campus and how removed from the city life our campus is. I love spending time outside and just enjoying all the wildlife and views around campus.

What's your favorite spot on campus?

I have several favorite spots: the courtyard, crane field and the senior lawn are all places that I love to go and sit to be outside.

What do you love about the all-girls school environment at FSHA?

I love that each of our young women receives a holistic education focused on faith, integrity and truth. Each and every student is celebrated for being the best that they can be in all areas of their lives.

What are you surprisingly good at?

I am good at working with my hands. I love to be crafty in any way possible. I often cross stitch, make cards, work with paper, and find new craft projects to keep me busy whether it is at work or in my free time.

Where can we find you when you’re not in the boarding hall?

When I am not working, I may still be on the Hill because I am one of the faculty members who lives here. I’ll spend time reading on campus, playing board games or crafting in my apartment. If I leave the Hill I usually am finding somewhere new to explore, going camping, going for a hike or going out to dinner.

Who has made the biggest impact on your life?

My mom has had a huge impact on my life. She has always been there for me and encouraging me to work hard and strive for my dreams. She has shown me what it means to be a strong in the best and worst of times. I wouldn’t be who I am today without my mom.
