LIFE ON THE HILL

The Hill is truly a home to approximately 60 boarders, who live in the same halls that FSHA’s first students inhabited in 1931. In this home away from home, boarders develop strong bonds during monthly birthday dinners, retreats and so much more, while also taking advantage of all that Southern California has to offer.

Residential Life Curriculum

Our residential life curriculum is designed to nurture the lives of our boarding students, with a focus on four key areas: community, spirituality, education and awareness, and leadership. All activities, outings and events are intended to contribute to the goals of the curriculum. We enthusiastically invite day students, faculty and staff to participate in the exciting life of the boarding hall.

Southern California is lively and full of culture! With easy access to city destinations, beaches, mountains, and the desert, our students can have any type of experience they dream of. If you're visiting campus, we encourage you to explore some of our boarding students' favorite destinations. Be warned, you might fall in love with the place!

Gardens, Parks & Beaches

Our boarding students love getting outdoors! We make regular trips to a variety of gardens, parks and beaches throughout Los Angeles County. Here are a few our favorite destinations.

We love a good picnic!

Museums

With 230+ museums in Los Angeles, you're bound to find a few of interest. Here are some of our favorite museum destinations for learning about and discovering new artists.

Dining

While we can always eat on campus, it's also awesome to head down the Hill for some boba, Starbucks or a visit to Urth Cafe.

Boba is a popular outing
  • Sometimes we just want a coffee or latte from Starbucks

Shopping

Shopping can be a fun excursion off campus to find a new outfit to wear to one of our community dinners or just a quick jaunt for some basics like toothpaste.

  • Perhaps the most famous two-mile stretch in all of Beverly Hills, we enjoy a trip to Rodeo Drive.
  • We love the charm of Old Town Pasadena, not to mention the ample dining and shopping options!
  • Sometimes a trip to the local Target is in order for some laundry soap or other basics.

Amusements

Places like Disneyland, Universal Studios and the Rose Bowl are iconic Los Angeles area destinations and we love living here so we can take full advantage.

At the entrance of Universal Studios
  • The Rose Bowl, viewable from campus, is a perfect destination for concerts, from Coldplay to Beyoncé, not to mention the largest flea market in the Los Angeles area.

Day or Weekend Trips

Longer day or weekend get-away trips are perfect opportunities for us to build friendships with each other, plus it's fun to get out of the city and explore a little further away from home!

Playing in the snow is a favorite activitiy during our winter trips to Lake Arrowhead
  • Lake Arrowhead is a frequent destination for boarding council retreats
