Residential Life: October Update
I hope this communication finds you well. I am pleased to update you on life in our residential life program and some important upcoming dates and programs.
RESIDENTIAL LIFE PROGRAM UPDATES
The girls in our care are enjoying a nice mix of fun and spirited community building activities mixed with intentional programs and life skill development. Our weekend offerings are varied each weekend, and the girls eagerly sign up for trips to amusement parks, the beach, local attractions, movies, the theater, shopping and eating experiences, and more. Our life skills component has offered self-defense training, cooking, baking, and sewing lessons, with financial literacy, car maintenance, and gardening next on the agenda.
RESIDENTIAL LIFE PROGRAM UPDATES
The girls in our care are enjoying a nice mix of fun and spirited community building activities mixed with intentional programs and life skill development. Our weekend offerings are varied each weekend, and the girls eagerly sign up for trips to amusement parks, the beach, local attractions, movies, the theater, shopping and eating experiences, and more. Our life skills component has offered self-defense training, cooking, baking, and sewing lessons, with financial literacy, car maintenance, and gardening next on the agenda.
We have formally launched our intentional programming on identity, inclusion, and diversity through our evening meeting structure. The girls wrote meaningful promise cards based on this theme through the internationally-known organization, Because I Said I Would. Our community dinners seek to foster the building of new relationships and community through table top activities. We hold cultural celebrations and the building of cultural competencies as important components of our program, and have enjoyed dinners thus far centered on Mid-Autumn Festival, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Canadian Thanksgiving. The goal is for each girl to feel her cultural heritage is recognized and celebrated. More to come!
Our girls have a positive spirit in the dorms, and are academically focused. Our evening academic support system is fully available to all of our girls with teachers and staff available to assist in all subjects. We kindly ask that parents refrain from calling or facetiming your daughters between 7 pm and 9 pm PST so that they can focus on their studies without interruption. Encourage your daughter to schedule evening extra help sessions with our staff. A gentle reminder that is is best to not overload your daughter with outside classes as colleges in the US are moving away from the SAT as an admission requirement. She needs to focus on her school studies.
Our new furnishings arrived a few weeks ago and have created a comfortable and modern feel to the rooms. We hope to paint the dorm rooms and do some work in the bathrooms this coming summer.
All of the girls and staff in the residential program are fully vaccinated, so we are able to move a bit more freely in the halls and dining room. LA County overall has seen a decline in infections, so we remain safe here at school and on excursions.

October 27: Junior-Senior Ring Ceremony, live streamed at 2:10 PST.
November 5: Freshmen retreat-on campus
November 5-6: All residential life retreat, our most important event of the year. Mandatory for all residents. Girls with conflicts must contact Dr. James. Ceremony concludes 6 pm Saturday, November 6th.
November 16: American Thanksgiving dinner, 5:30 pm
November 19: Halls close by 9 pm for Thanksgiving break
November 28: Halls reopen 3 pm from break
December 3-4-5: Residential Life Leadership Council Retreat-mandatory for leaders. Depart noon on Friday, return noon Sunday.
December 14: Residential Life Holiday Party, 5:30 pm
December 17: Halls close by 9 pm for Holiday break
January 4: Halls reopen 3 pm from Holiday break
