Campus modernization update: City Council Decision

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Good news! At Tuesday night's La Cañada Flintridge City Council meeting, the Councilmembers voted unanimously to certify the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (FSHA) Specific Plan - our campus modernization project - and to approve the project! We are grateful to the Councilmembers and to the City of La Cañada Flintridge staff for their hard work throughout this process.

As many of you know, the Specific Plan will allow FSHA to modernize its campus to accommodate the demands of a modern 21st century curriculum. The project includes state-of-the-art classrooms, modern fine arts and performance spaces, a student-centered plaza, a partially subterranean parking structure and an athletic practice field. The project also includes upgrades that will increase accessibility to all FSHA facilities, as well as electrical and fire safety upgrades which will be beneficial to the entire community on the Hill. It is exciting to have reached this milestone. These critical upgrades to our campus will ensure that FSHA is able to continue providing students with the highest quality educational experience and learning environment for decades to come.

It has been our honor to work closely with you, our neighbors on the Hill, to ensure that our modernization plans are sensitive to the surrounding community. As we look to the future, I can assure you that our conversations with you and our community will continue. As stewards of this beautiful property, we recognize that our campus enhancement project must be respectful of our neighbors and our extraordinary surroundings throughout the entire process, from construction to completion.

Finally, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the support you have demonstrated to the Sisters and to our project. Over the last six years, many of you have taken time to write letters, attend meetings and formally speak in support of our efforts. Your actions have made a difference, and have demonstrated to City staff, the Planning Commission and the City Council, FSHA's genuine commitment to being a good neighbor and a valuable community resource. We cannot thank you enough for investing your time and energy in support of this project.

We look forward to sharing updates with you as we prepare for construction, which is expected to begin in June 2018. As always, should you have any questions, please contact us at (626) 685-8557 or at fshamasterplaninfo@fsha.org. You can also visit us the project website at www.fsha.org/masterplan.

With Gratitude,

Sister Carolyn McCormack, O.P.
