Boarding Hall Update

Greetings from Residential Life at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy!

It's hard to believe the end of the year is here! May has been a month full of joyful celebration for our upcoming graduates, as well as a month of fun and planning for what is to come next year. Keep reading to see what we've been up to...

We kicked off our month with an evening outing to Griffith Park Observatory on May 3, and stopped for a quick dinner at In-N-Out Burger.

On May 7, we held our last prayer service of the semester—students were split into pairs, and in the spirit of the Road to Emmaus, students were asked to journey around campus and reflect on their joys, challenges, and points of growth throughout the course of the school year.

Our last intentional program of the year was May 15, in their dorm families, students made and enjoyed homemade ice cream on the senior lawn using soccer ball ice cream makers.

On May 20, we were able to enjoy a Sunday morning trip to the Montrose farmer's market. Two days later, we celebrated our birthdays and seniors with a Jungle Book themed dinner which included tributes and gifts for our graduates, and a fun slideshow.

Over our four-day Memorial Day weekend, we had our last hot pot afternoon on Saturday—a nice study break from finals, and Ms. Sam hosted a biology review on Sunday afternoon. The weekend also included some impromptu runs to town for coffee and Boba.

In looking towards the year ahead, our incoming boarding council had their first planning meeting at the end of this month, and we're excited to see what next year brings. In this meeting, the council was able to brainstorm fun new outing ideas, as well as tried and true favorites, and come up with some really great topic ideas for intentional programs, prayer services, and other in-hall events. While the planning has only just begun, along with a couple of camping trips, we already have two overnight trips to Lake Arrowhead calendared, and "Sushi Saturdays," will likely become a regular cooking event in the halls.

The residence halls formally close on Monday, June 4 at noon, and boarding council will return on August 10th to help with new student move-in on August 11. All returning boarding students will move back to campus on August 16.

To our returning boarding families, I hope you have a restful and relaxing summer vacation, and we'll see you in August. To the families of our graduates, thank you for entrusting your daughters to us—it has been a blessing and a privilege to journey with them. We wish you and them all the best in the years ahead.

Summer blessings,

Katie Steele
