Student Life

Jane H. '26

I am an active participant of the speech and debate team as an impromptu speaker. Additionally, I am one of the founders of the Boyle Heights Immersion Program, president of the First Generation Student affinity group, part of the Library Advisory Board and Teaching Youth Political Engagement Board. My favorite spot on campus is the terrace outside of the Art building because it has such a beautiful view of the hill, the city and the Rose Bowl. I hope to become an immigration or criminal justice lawyer and eventually run for a political position. My proudest accomplishment so far is contributing to start the Boyle Heights Immersion Program. As someone who was born and raised in Boyle Heights, I wanted to show our community the beauty, history and culture of this unique part of Los Angeles. What I love about Flintridge Sacred Heart is the sisterhood I have experienced through my classmates and friends around the hill, at retreats, clubs, and teams, anytime I need support or encouragement I know I can rely on them for help, advice and comfort.

I come from a very international background, my mother is from Taiwan and my father is from Malaysia, and though I was born in America, my hometown is in Malaysia. I love the independence I've gained by living on this campus. Boarding has really strengthened my independence and prepared me for college. I'm currently a board member of the badminton club and the rock climbing club, part of the Junior board, and I represent the Juniors on the residential council. I'm so proud of myself for being able to live on my own, even when I'm far from home. Before attending this community, I had never been away from my parents for longer than five hours, and now I'm apart  for multiple months. It never gets easier to say goodbye to them, but I'm proud that I never gave up. I love all the opportunities available to students at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. We are truly privileged with the resources we have here. Flintridge Sacred Heart is a very encouraging and welcoming community, if you ever need help, don't hesitate to ask because everyone here loves to help and be a guiding hand. I love traveling, and through the school's international program, I went on a GlobalWorks service trip to Ecuador for a week. It was an amazing experience filled with challenges that taught me many new skills. I'm truly grateful for the supervisors who are always helpful and for the memories I've made living on campus.

I am a part of the FSHA capella club, the Speech and Debate team, board member of the First Generation affinity group, and an ambassador here at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. My favorite spot on campus is for sure the Gym, that is a place where the whole school comes together for many different activities throughout the year. At the moment my career aspiration is to be an immigration lawyer and to be able to make an impact in the lives of others. My proudest accomplishment so far was assisting in the Dolores Mission Immersion trip as an alumni from Dolores Mission School. While going to Dolores Mission I would see many people coming into the school to volunteer, so it was pretty cool being the one volunteering instead. Something I love about Flintridge Sacred Heart is the people here, the students, teachers and administration are all very welcoming, and it feels like home when coming up the hill. My advice for someone applying is to take in the environment, ask questions, and remember to always be your true authentic self.
