This year, we are engaging in the art of storytelling in unexpected places. Inspired by a trip to The Wallis theatre in Beverly Hills, where some of our theatre students and I saw an incredible and enchanting play by PigPen Theatre Company, we will present THIS GIRL LAUGHS, THIS GIRL CRIES, THIS GIRL DOES NOTHING on the Senior Lawn under the night sky. We will explore character, lighting, scale, sound, song, physicality and shadow as we follow our three heroines on their journeys to self-discovery. Our audiences will behold the unexpected, they will stare in wonder, and clap with glee at our outrageous creativity, our inspiring vision, our glorious storytelling. We will work in joyful collaboration, in a state of constant discovery. If you play an instrument or sing or dance, we encourage you to lend your talents to this production. Everything is possible. As you read the play, know that the lines will be divided up much differently than they appear and there will be opportunity for all who are cast. The end result is far different from the written page. I encourage you to take your time as you read, to breathe into the magical moments. Don’t read quickly. Savor each moment, each challenge, each emotion. Read with your heart open to all the characters you encounter.

This Girl Laughs, The Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing is a play for those who are willing to engage their imagination.
SUMMARY: Triplet sisters are left in the forest by their woodcutter father. From amongst the trees, three resolutions are made – one sister will walk one way, one the other way, and the third will stay right where she is. Twenty years later, having circumnavigated the globe, and fought Vikings, and crossed oceans, and tamed wilds, and achieved greatness, the three meet again, as women.
