This month was full of celebrations including plenty of activities centered around Lunar New Year. This month we enjoyed an outing to go go-kart racing, had several trips to the Asian market, had several shopping trips to different malls, ate hot pot in Ms. Sam’s apartment to celebrate Lunar New Year, have gone to the Rose Bowl several times for afternoon walks, lots of game nights in the halls, made homemade dumplings for Lunar New Year and enjoyed rowing lessons from Ms. Sarah on our new erg machine in the gym.
We have continued to make tie fleece blankets, and made dog biscuits for the Pasadena Humane Society. We have lots of service opportunities coming up off the hill, so encourage your daughter to sign up for one of the trips for February!
The January birthday dinner was an enjoyable evening where we celebrated our January birthdays and rang in 2020 with a roaring '20s dinner theme. We enjoyed dressing up in 1920s style dresses and had a large group toast for welcoming in 2020. We also enjoyed a Lunar New Year Dinner with plenty of dumplings and each student received a red envelope with a $2 bill and a free night pass to use this semester. We also had Karios 76 homecoming and enjoyed a fun meal out after the seniors returned to the halls.
Looking ahead, we are looking to go to Magic Mountain on President’s Day on February 18- we are asking students to sign up by February 10. We will be going to Disneyland in April. We will soon be giving out our boarding council application and start the process of selecting next year’s student leadership team in the halls. If your daughter is interested in boarding council or wants to know more about what we will be expecting of our student leaders please have her come speak with me.

Our next break is spring break where students will be signing out by noon on April 4 and the halls will reopen on April 19 at noon. Students need to be back in the halls by 10 p.m. on April 19 for classes starting on April 20.

As always please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about your daughter. We are thankful for each of our boarding students and are enjoying this year’s boarding community.

Happy Lunar New Year,

Ms. Samantha Herrick
