Vollyball Loses in First Round of CIF; Couch Shelli Orlandini Steps Down
Varsity volleyball wrapped up the season on Nov. 11 with a loss in the first round of CIF playoffs. Nonetheless, the girls had a spectacular season with a 16-7 overall record and a 2nd place finish in Mission League with a record of 8-7.
Coach Shelli Orlandini was pleased with their performance.
“We had another great season with a lot of challenges. The girls always went out on the court wanting to win. I am very proud of this team, they showed a lot of heart,” she said.
Athletic director Stephanie Contreras echoed Orlandini’s thoughts.
“It was another great year. It’s tough being in Division 1AA. The team always rose to the occasion and never gave up,” said Contreras.
The team said goodbye to seniors Connor McCracken, Jenna Orlandini and Marissa Provenzano who will graduate in June.
“Senior night was something I will always remember because I got to hear what others had to say about me. But it’s also a reality that I won’t be coming back to play at FSHA next year,” said co-captain Orlandini.
The team will also say goodbye to Coach Orlandini.
“I hope to stay on as an assistant. I don’t want it to appear as I am just leaving,” said Coach Orlandini.
She is stepping down so that she can watch her daughters play college volleyball – Sam ‘08 at Cal State Northridge and Jenna ‘09 at the University of Washington.
Although the high school season is over, girls continue to play for prestigious club teams in preparation for a great season next year.
The girls have created a bond that continues regardless of the season’s ending.
“We got to know each other as individuals, not just as players,” said Mallory Howe ’10.
