JV Volleyball Season is Underway, Frosh Team Named
JV volleyball is off to a 3-3 start which has Amanda Petro ’12 “very excited for the season ahead.” This could be in large part of new coach Anson Bustamante, who started working with the girls over the summer.
This is Bustamante’s first experience coaching a high school team. He played volleyball at Cathedral High School in Los Angeles as well as in college.
“My hopes for the season are to instill the team mentality into all the girls and help them realize, in order to succeed on the court, they must be in sync and play as a team” he said.
The Tologs already work well together.
“I don’t believe we have stand-out players; I feel all our players contribute greatly to the team’s overall success,” said Coach Bustamante.
The two biggest matches will be against La Canada High School and Harvard-Westlake.
The team wants to better its 14-5 overall and 7-3 league record from last season, and they believe they can with team effort.
Players are Lauren Beeton ’12, Camille Betance ’13, Dana Budzyn ’13, Colleen Degnan ’13, Katelyn Docherty ’11, Kelsey Gorman ’13, Anna Liebelt ’12, Katrina Morris ’12, Carly Mann ’12, Jessica Martin ’12, Claire Mudie ’12, Amanda Petro ’12, Katherine Rubschlager ’12 and Drew Washington ’12.
The team has caught the attention of varsity starter Jordan Terwilliger ’10: “The junior var-sity team has really surprised me; I expect a good season for them.”
