JV Tennis Off to Rough Start
JV tennis was excited about its first win over South Pasadena in pre-season play earlier this month and hopes that it will be a precedent to beating last season’s 8-3 record. So far the top singles player is junior Allie Kern while classmates Allee Fisher and Megha Chawla are the leading duo in doubles.
Coach Olympio D’Mello expects not only Kern but also sophomore Deepti Reddy to lead the team to victory in singles. “My aim for the season is always to encourage new players to improve
and play varsity and even club,” said Coach D’Mello.
Pre-season ends Oct. 6 with the first league match against Alemany on the home court at Flint Canyon Tennis Club. The girls expect it to be a tough game, but the hardest game is always against Harvard Westlake. Captains on the team are seniors Natalie Innocenzi, Meghan Luera and Meline Matevosion. Juniors include Ana Sofia Cervantes Leon, Megha Chawla, Allee Fisher, Irene Ghil, Allie Kern, Brittany Tom and Bella Ye. Sophomores are Samantha Bolstad, Jacqueline Fernandez, Deepti Reddy and Elizabeth Williamson. The newest players are freshmen Victoria McGregor, Alex Milat, Carly Moore and Emma Woodman.
