A library full of Tologs sat in awed silence and wiped their eyes as Zahava Sweet read poems about her life and time in concentration camps during World War II. On April 13, the Holocaust survivor related her experiences with stockpiling bread crusts to ward off hunger and crawling away to escape from German soldiers. After a question from one student, she explained that her faith rebounded stronger than ever after she resumed her life following the liberation from the camps. Said one girl to the teacher who brought her to the session: “That was awesome. Thanks for letting us come!”
The event honored Holocaust Remembrance Day on April 11, as well as Poetry Month.
