Suegene Kim Assembly Awes Students

The speakers at this year's Suegene Kim Assembly were Jennifer Hull, a resident of La Canada Flintridge and member at St. Bede's, and her adopted daughter Josie.
When Josie was born on July 25, 2001, she was joined at the head with her twin sister Theresa. The two babies were brought to Los Angeles from their native Guatemala for separation surgery, and after recovery was too much for their parents and local doctors to handle, the girls moved to the United States permanently.

Jennifer became aware of Josie and Theresa's situation through her work with the foundation started by Mel Gibson and his ex-wife Robin to fund these types of medical procedures for children. She became Josie's foster mother and later adopted her, while Theresa lives in the Valencia area. Josie and Jennifer live in La Canada, where Josie attends third grade at Paradise Canyon.

After Jennifer spoke about the process it took to separate Josie and Theresa up through the relatively minor developmental issues the girls currently face, she brought Josie out to say hello to the 400 FSHA students assembled in the Gym. Josie answered a number of questions, including queries about her favorite color and what she wants to be when she grows up. (Pink and a veterinarian, respectively.)
