Badminton is Freshman’s New Passion

Once a top figure skater in her age group, freshman Erin Li now devotes all of her athletic spirit to badminton, another sport she takes very seriously.
“My current goal is to represent California in state competitions,” said Li.

She has played badminton for five years and trains for four to five hours each Saturday and Sunday at the Pomona Badminton Club in Diamond Bar.

Li currently is working hard to get into a pool of players who represent California at state competitions. This requires that she compete in several tournaments where she must place in the top 10 to accumulate points to be considered for the pool.

She plays both singles and doubles. She and her cousin Karen Cheng, 25, compete in tournaments in Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. —Emma Lin
