Tologs Prove to be ‘Model’ Citizens in Fashion World

If you by chance happen to pass by a billboard and recognize a familiar face, it may be one of those you often see in the hallway.
Maddie Dawn ‘16, who has modeled for only two years, has already appeared in advertisements for companies like Urban Outfitters, L’Oréal and MAC Cosmetics. While she shoots for magazines such as Dazed and Confused, LA Canvas and Women's Wear Daily, Dawn also does runway for Teen Vogue and L’ecole Des Femmes.

Her modeling career started in 2012 when an agent from LA Models called her mother and expressed an interest in Dawn. Since then, this sophomore shoots almost every week, while the number of hours spent on modeling each month varies from 10 to 35.

The job certainly has forced Dawn to grow up at a young age.

“Modeling is a lot of hard work because I miss a lot of school and I have to make sure I am ahead of my schoolwork so I don’t fall behind,” said Dawn. “It also is hard because I am working at a really young age, but I would never not want to do it because it always puts a smile on my face.”

Another Tolog model, Gabrielle Current ‘15, started her modeling career at a young age. At the age of five, she joined the kids division at both Jet Set Models and LA Models. When she was 15, Current signed with Ford Models, whose teen model department recently moved to LA Models. She recently shot for The Coca-Cola Company, Target Corporation, Free People and American Apparel.

Current shoots around three times a month; the hours for each shoot range from a few hours to a whole day, depending on the crew and the looks.

Modeling has not affected Current’s studies in the slightest.

“I may miss school for jobs and auditions, but I do my best to stay on top of my work, so I can manage the two important parts of my life,” said Current.

Even though they need to set aside a large amount of time for shootings, both of the girls enjoy their jobs.

“I love taking pictures and trying on new clothes,” said Dawn. “My favorite part is when I get the pictures back and see the outcome of all the hard work.”

The two girls intend to stay in the entertainment industry, but while Dawn sees modeling as her career, Current wants to focus on singing and acting in addition to modeling. —Judy Lee, Business Editor
