The course covers methods to escape common methods of assault against women and girls, (e.g. grab from behind, hair pull, chokehold, etc.) Students will be drilled on how to correctly execute kicks, elbow strikes, palm strikes and knee strikes. Students will experience being grabbed from behind, jolted off the ground and fight back with full force. The skills are taught in a safe and supportive environment.
Classes meet after school, once per week for two hours. Class size is limited to 12 students.

At the end of the course, students will be comfortable in using their bodies as weapons. They will become more aware of their surroundings, increase situational awareness and recognize pre-contact indicators. The course also discusses dating violence and studies on sexual assault in Southern California.

The class will be run by a program called SHIELD.  FSHA has used this program before.
