FSHA Dance Team treated to exclusive workshop by critically acclaimed U.K. dance company.

This week, as part of Center Theatre Group’s Student Matinee Program, the dance team was treated to an exclusive workshop taught by Alan Vincent and Mami Tomotani, resident artists of Michael Bourne’s dance company New Adventures.

Matthew Bourne, one of the UK’s most critically acclaimed and widely successful choreographers and directors, has brought audiences across the world traditional ballet with a contemporary twist. Bourne’s production "The Red Shoes" is playing at the Ahmanson Theater until Oct. 1.

The energetic instruction by the artists brought out the individual creativity from each of the girls, encouraging them to reach into their own past experiences and emotions to bring the movements to life. A captivating experience to witness, during one exercise, each of the girls were instructed to invent body motions meant to intimidate, then collaborate within a group of four to create a truly stunning and emotional routine.

A truly unique opportunity for the dance team at FSHA, and one they won’t soon forget.
