December news from the boarding hall

Greetings from Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy!

It’s hard to believe that it’s already December! November was a month full of outings, hall activities and a much-welcomed break for Thanksgiving. Read below to see what we've been up to.

On Thursday, Nov. 2, we kicked off our month with an extremely successful college fair in the boarding hall as our November intentional program. We co-hosted this event with college counseling, which included a brief program on the college applications process for international students, followed by a fair where students had the opportunity to meet with representatives from 24 colleges and universities.

Nov. 4-5, we took our second overnight camping trip to Malibu Creek State Park and enjoyed games, time around the campfire and stopped at the beach on the way home. On Sunday, Nov. 12, we took a small outing to the Americana, and on Tuesday, Nov. 14, we celebrated our November birthdays with a Thanksgiving-themed celebration.

On Thursday, Nov. 9, Mr. Cramer, one of our history teachers, came and spent one of our Thursday movie nights with us. We watched “The Goonies,” and Mr. Cramer baked his famous coffee cake for us.

We closed our month with a prayer service on the 27th, an end of semester reflection that included time in small faith sharing groups.

December will be a joyfully busy time for us in the halls, including a winter masquerade birthday dinner, secret Santa gift exchange, an outing to The Grove, a de-stressing holiday workshop, and a hot-pot afternoon with me before finals.

As a gentle reminder, the halls will be closed starting on Thursday, Dec. 21 at noon for Christmas break. Students may return to the halls on Sunday, Jan. 7 between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. All students must return from break by 9 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2018.

I hope you have a festive and joyful holiday season as the new year approaches.

Advent Blessings,

Katie Steele
