  • Donor Advised Fund

If you are currently using a donor advised fund for your charitable giving, consider designating Flintridge Sacred Heart as a grant recipient. A donor-advised fund is a philanthropic giving vehicle in which an individual deposits contributions without choosing a specific recipient right away. When you, the donor, decides on a recipient, you can send the money from the account to the nonprofit organization as a grant.

Think of a donor-advised fund as a personal investment account. However, the account must be created and maintained by a sponsoring organization. Most of these sponsoring organizations are either charitable arms of financial service firms or they are Community Foundations. The sponsor organization actively invests and manages the funds. Donors can contribute as frequently as they’d like. When you deposit assets into the account, you receive the charitable tax deduction immediately without the pressure of selecting a recipient organization right then.

Once you contribute assets into the DAF, the sponsoring organization has legal control of the funds. However, you or your representative holds the advisory privileges to advise the sponsor to direct grants to specific charities. Please contact your financial advisor if you are interested in creating a donor-advised fund.
  • IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

If you are 70½ or older and you have a traditional IRA, you are eligible to make a tax effective donation to a charity directly from your IRA, even if you do not itemize deductions on your tax return. This donation is called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) and it uses funds that you're already required by law to withdraw from your IRA that otherwise would be taxed.

It's a simple but highly effective way to support Flintridge Sacred Heart while minimizing the tax bite associated with IRA distributions. If you are interested in making this IRA gift in 2021, please contact your IRA administrator as soon as possible since the gift must be received by the charity on or before December 31, 2021. It's a win-win!

Maximum allowable contribution from an IRA QCD is $100,000. Consult your financial/tax advisor to determine your required minimum distribution. Thank you for supporting Flintridge Sacred Heart!
  • Tax Deductibility and End of Year Giving for the 2020 Tax Year

Your gift is tax-deductible to the full extent of the current tax laws. Please discuss with your accountant or tax preparer for more information.

As the year draws to a close, we want to highlight for you some charitable giving techniques that can assist you in your year-end tax and financial planning while at the same time supporting Flintridge Sacred Heart in our mission to educate young women for lives of faith, integrity and truth. Click here for detailed information regarding year-end giving or contact your tax advisor.

FOR THOSE WHO ITEMIZE THEIR DEDUCTIONS
Charitable contributions are deductible for donors who itemize deductions when filing their annual tax returns. 2022 deduction limits for gifts to public charities, including donor-advised funds, are 30% of adjusted gross income (AGI) for contributions of non-cash assets, if the assets were held more than one year, and 60% of AGI for contributions of cash. Contribution amounts in excess of these deduction limits may be carried over up to five subsequent tax years.

    CHARITABLE IRA DISTRIBUTIONS
If you are age 70 ½ or older, you can make distributions from your IRA directly to charities such as Flintridge Sacred Heart up to $100,000 annually to all charities combined. If spouses or partners have separate IRA accounts, they can each make charitable distributions from those accounts up to $100,000 annually. The gift counts to offset mandatory annual distributions from the IRA for those over age 72. This is not a tax deductible gift, but the distribution amount is excluded from your taxable income for 2022 if received by December 31, 2022. These gifts should be made by check or electronic funds transfer directly from your IRA account to Flintridge Sacred Heart. Please arrange with your IRA administrator for sufficient time to complete the gift so that Flintridge Sacred Heart will receive it on or before December 31.

Thank you for supporting Flintridge Sacred Heart!
