  • Donor Advised Fund

If you are currently using a donor advised fund for your charitable giving, consider designating Flintridge Sacred Heart as a grant recipient. A donor-advised fund is a philanthropic giving vehicle in which an individual deposits contributions without choosing a specific recipient right away. When you, the donor, decides on a recipient, you can send the money from the account to the nonprofit organization as a grant.

Think of a donor-advised fund as a personal investment account. However, the account must be created and maintained by a sponsoring organization. Most of these sponsoring organizations are either charitable arms of financial service firms or they are Community Foundations. The sponsor organization actively invests and manages the funds. Donors can contribute as frequently as they’d like. When you deposit assets into the account, you receive the charitable tax deduction immediately without the pressure of selecting a recipient organization right then.

Once you contribute assets into the DAF, the sponsoring organization has legal control of the funds. However, you or your representative holds the advisory privileges to advise the sponsor to direct grants to specific charities. Please contact your financial advisor if you are interested in creating a donor-advised fund.
  • IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

If you are 70½ or older and you have a traditional IRA, you are eligible to make a tax effective donation to a charity directly from your IRA, even if you do not itemize deductions on your tax return. This donation is called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) and it uses funds that you're already required by law to withdraw from your IRA that otherwise would be taxed.

It's a simple but highly effective way to support Flintridge Sacred Heart while minimizing the tax bite associated with IRA distributions. If you are interested in making this IRA gift in 2021, please contact your IRA administrator as soon as possible since the gift must be received by the charity on or before December 31, 2021. It's a win-win!

Maximum allowable contribution from an IRA QCD is $100,000. Consult your financial/tax advisor to determine your required minimum distribution. Thank you for supporting Flintridge Sacred Heart!
  • Tax Deductibility + CARES Act Provisions - Regarding Charitable Giving in 2020 Tax Year

Your gift is tax-deductible to the full extent of the current tax laws. Please discuss with your accountant or tax preparer for more information.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) provides some important provisions related to charitable giving that apply to the 2020 tax year only. Making a gift before the year ends can carry significant tax benefits while you support Flintridge Sacred Heart.

Donors who itemize their deductions can now give more to charity before reaching their adjusted gross income (AGI) limitation. Formerly set at 60%, the limitation for cash contributions to certain public charities has now been raised to 100% of an individual’s AGI for 2021. Any giving beyond this 100% limitation may be carried over and used in the next five years, but the enhanced deduction expires after 2021.

The CARES Act allows for up to $300 in charitable contributions to qualify as an above-the-line deduction. You don’t have to itemize deductions in order to claim the $300 as a deduction. Qualifying donations must be made in cash or cash equivalents (as opposed to stock, for example) and cannot be directed to supporting organizations or DAFs. Married couples who file joint returns can claim up to $600 as a deduction.

Thank you for supporting Flintridge Sacred Heart!

Be a GEM (Give Every Month)

As a GEM donor, you’ll be Giving Every Month to Flintridge Sacred Heart. Recurring monthly gifts begin with as little as $10. Your monthly gift will be automatically charged to your debit or credit card.

Donors often prefer this method of giving because it’s easy to budget and you may increase, decrease or cancel your pledge whenever you wish.
For example, if you want to donate a total of $2,000 over ten months of September-June, enter $200 as your annual fund gift amount in the section above and then September as your start and June as your end date.
